I worked for Jim Walter homes as a sales person for 2 years and as a Branch Manager for two years.

I worked for this company trying to maintain the standards that were taught to me as a real estate agent. Being a licensed agent was frowned upon by the company...I guess the code of ethics was probably a bit to stringent for the type of shabby work and bad business practices appreciated by upper management.

I was fired two weeks before my vestment in the company and cheated out of my retirement. I would not play the corp. games that were required to maintain my job.

I knew I should have gotten in that hot tub in my underwear in Tampa with the rest of the bimbo's that became the new branch managers and horses in the never ending horse and pony shows that are required to keep your job.

Hard work and dedication is rewarded by telling you that they can let you go or close your entire branch.

They made this my decision...really.

Within one month they had let go every other salary employee go anyway and left one, yes one sales rep to run the office. No Manager, no construction manager, no secretary". Only one person a sales rep/.

Then they flew a woman in from south Florida to work a couple of days a week as acting manager!. Giving her a company vehicle, gas card, expense account, lodging and a very good salary!.

Just makes you wonder what they are thinking:.

Just wanted to let you know I did try to run the Panama City Branch with honor and dedication but was rewarded with deceit and dishonor by the people in upper management!. I feel sorry for the people who are now trying to get financing because they are being ripped a new one in the end..

Good luck to you all;.

Cyndi Frost

Former Branch Manager

I had a Jim Walter house built a little over two years ago and it is crap! Better business bureau is worthless and we are stuck with a newer home that is completely falling apart. We just found out that the electrical wiring was not done to code, our floor is buckling, the house is shifting so bad we are getting cracks in the sheetrock. Very bad quality! And during the warranty, they came several times for the same issues and nothing was ever fixed.

I worked for the company for 6 years in 4 different branches. Those last 2 years I was constantly being taken advantage of by having to work 70-80 hours every week and still having holidays taken away when the construction managers couldn' meet the district managers projected numbers. JWH was a good company when Jim Walter was alive. JWH started going downhill shortly after his death. The reason JWH had to close its doors has absolutely nothing to do with the economy or the housing market and has everything to do with the way the treated their customers and employees. I thank God every day that I was pushed out when I was.

I beleive the whole company Jim Walter's is a gimic to get land or steal land from poor people. They build sorry houses. Then they jack up your payments where you can't afford the house. The employees suck that work for them also.

I too worked for WH and the experience was the same- Lic. Broker. The young hot shot Regional Sale's Manager did not like my ethics-dealing fairly and honestly with the customers. Sadly the company is not a victim of the housing problems- they are a victim of there own doing.
