Jim Walters Homes constructed our house in 2004, near Tyler, TX. Even during construction, we knew there were problems. These problems included using old, rotten wood in the framing; using the concrete form-boards as part of the frame; installing the wrong size windows; neglecting to cut the hole for the attic crawl space in the ceiling; "hotwiring" the light in the master bedroom closet and a whole host of plumbing problems. When i asked the GC about these things, he told me that "as a woman, I just didn't understand what was going on." What I did understand was that the house was being built by incompetent, unskilled workers. The framing crew that they subcontracted brought an entire clan with them, including a grandmother and several babies in diapers. These people literally camped out on my property, used MY boat to go into MY lake to go fishing and constructed a bonfire to cook their meals. When I showed up unexpectedly one day, they informed me that they "had the home-owner's permission"". I informed them that they were mistaken, but they refused to leave, even having the nerve to tell me that their kids were afraid of my dog and I needed to take him off the property!
The house is now falling apart/. The front porch has already had to be replaced as the "staples" that were used on the railings all fell out, and the porch columns were never stable!. There are sheetrock nails falling out of every room in the house!. The plumbing in both bathrooms has been a bloody nightmare:. Both showers leak and the toilet flushing mechanisms have both been replaced;. They sent a contractor to "fix" the master bathroom-all he did was paint over where the leak had been.. And he spilled paint all over the floor,.
Oh, and the salesman and the general contractor were both fired during the construction of my house for having a "side business" in which they built houses on their own with material that had been over-purchased and charged to the home-owner of the Jim Walters Home being constructed.
I have filed several complaints, obviously without resolution to any of them. If I could do this over again, I would NEVER, EVER contract with Jim Walters/Dream Homes/Netherland Homes and I warn anyone else not to...it will be a waste of your hard-earned money and an on-going nightmare for years to come.

What i know is a support wall has no support underneath and is actually pulling away from the ceiling causing doors not to close and the floor to ripple. The house was my wedding present; however, from day one (1), the present has been a nightmare. The foundation is cracking, we cannot use the front door for it is stuck. We have kept pictures of all defects and, we continue to take pictures as the house deteriorates. We have not heard any any class action lawsuits against Jim Walters, but do wonder if any exist. Does anyone out there know of any? We consulted an attorney here in Alabama, and he was more than willing to take the case; however, we would prefer a class action lawsuit, knowing that many others have been misguided. The first decision that my husband and I made together turned out to be our worse decision. Please respond if you have knowledge of any current lawsuits against Jim Walters. Wish you all the best. |
