My folks had Jim Walter Homes build them a home in 1981". Initially, the roof leaked terribly and it took 3 trips to fix that/. That should have signalled problems right off the bat!.

Of course the company used Masonite siding which became another horror story down the road!.

But, just recently what I discovered really takes the cake:. During an inspection for an appraisal, a civil engineer informed me that the main floor joist was built improperly and has been splitting over the last few years;. This is causing the floors to sag and buckle;.

I will now have to spend in excess of $5,000 to repair this major structural problem in addition to money I will have to spend to repair things caused by this/.

Of course, I'm sure Jim Walter Homes will say it is too far removed from when they build the home to do anything about it. 12a69ab

My husband and I have lived in our Jim Walter Home for only three (3) years and the foundation is already cracking. We have so much structural damage that it may be wise to move out and declare the place condemned. Do anyone know if there are any class action lawsuits against Jim Walter. If so, we would like to jump on board; if not, we are more than willing to initiate. Someone please respond.

I have a Jim Walter... Lets not call it "home". It is less than five years old. I fell through my livingroom floor, no square corners in the house, and missing beams in my floor that is supposed to support the "live load" And thats not even the worst of it. On the outside stairs were made of untreated wood that was not level, you can fit a dime through the trim... ALL around the house. Windows were not framed in, my kitchen cabinets are falling off the walls and walking away from the walls downstairs. I went to paint my daughters bedroom and removed the molding only to have the ENTIRE doorframe fall out. It was not even nailed to blocks. When I get off the crutches, I must begin the war with the warranty dept. of Jim Walter... I hope the warranty is better than my house...That has AC problems and sheets of plywood covering big holes.

our piece of crap from J Walters is 19 years old and I'll be amazed if it lasts until the payoof date next year. Plumbing leaks rotted a floor and a partition wall that wasn't even nailed to floor joists. They just drove nails through the subflooring and bent the nails over on the bottom. The junky aluminum windows ans the piss poor venting/nonventing of the bathrooms had generated LOTS of mold. Our floors are so unlevel that they belong in a skate park. I wish they would be forced to refund everyone's money. It would probably take that much for all of us to get our houses into semi-decent shape. We don't even have friends to our house because we are so embarrassed.

My home was built in 1992 in Naples, FL. I can really appreciate the issue with the Masonite siding, which I was assured at the time had a 50-year guarantee...NOT! I guess that I should have been more keen to the problems that would later arise from the very beginning, when the finished flooring was installed, before the house had a roof yet...in Florida...in rainy season... I have since had to completely gut one bathroom, due to plumbing leaks. The second "master bath" is completely off-limits and has no water at this time due to plumbing problems in the walls. And to think that I only had JWH build 42% of my home...the shell (crooked walls, ill-fitting doors and windows), air-conditioning (I won't even go there) and plumbing (disaster). Thank God that I took care of the septic system and electric on my own! I appreciate your pain!
