My floor is falling in.

We inherited my father in laws house, the entire house has a bad floor in it. I just ripped out the living room and dining room. The three men working with me and myself suffered chemical burns due to something in the presswood floor. I dont know if its the glue or what but It looks like I took an acid bath

It looks as though all of us that bought Jim Walter Homes got screwed. They used inferior building materials. My house is collapsing around me. Lumber prices are too high to make repairs at this time. I hope the owners of Jim Walter Homes burn in *** for what they have done to us.

Jim Walter are Con Artists

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Approximately 12 years ago my parents purchased their first home from these crooks, this was the biggest mistake they ever made in their lives. Let's start from the beginning, growing up my family came from a less fortunate environment so when we finally have enough money to buy our own piece of land and have a home built this seemed like our chance to taste the American dream. That dream would quickly turn into a nightmare as time passed. When building our $150,000 house they ordered and charged us for way too many windows bricks as well as many other materials, then on top of that the company that was contracted to build the house would come back to steal those materials we paid for. As time passed we realized the attic was never insulated, the windows were put in backwards and never properly sealed, our garage was never built they just left a huge pile of bricks in the front yard, the foundation wasn't properly done so the house shifted and the ceilings for most of the rooms began cracking. After all this starts taking place we contact them and find out they went out of business and changed to a different company then another company and now they are an energy company in bankruptcy. To ensure that people like my family can never sue them for their shady business practices. For the icing on the cake I recently realized they were paying $1381 dollars for 30 years on the home that was destroyed in hurricane Harvey and now valued at $80,000. If you do the math that's $497,160 for a $150,000 home that is an empty shell at this moment and since were lower middle class minorities with little financial education people like "Jim Walter" have the right to get away with doing things like this. If they did this to my family I can only imagine the things they have done to others, on top of that continuously change businesses and file for bankruptcy to hide the money this is the greatest lesson learned about how the system works.

The house had to be put in my name with hers added because she didn't work. She signed 1 acre over to me because she owned the land.

Jim Walters was supposed to take care of this, but my names isn't on the land taxes, just the house. I need my name added on the taxes for the 1 acre.

Back in 91, my mother in law had to put up an acre of her land (that was paid for) before they began to build. The house was put in mine and her name, she is deceased now and I've finished paying for the house. I have been the only 1 to pay the taxes on the house and land, I'm married to her daughter and we took care of her. Now the other children are wanting their piece of land, it's only 1.88 acres. Doesn't the house come with the acre she put up?

My father had a home built in the 70s. The house was so unlevel that we had to cut all sheetrock to fit. My father lost the house and land because of their shabby work. My opinion Jim Walter homes should never have been in business.

Whatโ€™s going on with the floors?

My mom and dad had our house built in 83/84. They had just the shell built and my dad (almost) finished the inside.

Now, less than 35 years later, the floor is spongy everywhere! Itโ€™s not partial board so Iโ€™m not sure what is going on. This really should have held up better than this! My dad has passed and my mom has Alzheimerโ€™s so I have no one to answer any questions about the house being built.

I currently live here with my 4 sons and Iโ€™m going to have to replace the entire floor.

I just know that there are much older homes that havenโ€™t had this issue. Does anyone know why this is happening?

We have a Jim Walter *** since 1999. In my opinion it has been junk since day one.

They had poor carpenters that did the work. They did not take pride in their work. We are now changing sub floor and flooring out due it being spongy and rotted. When they put the flooring down they put Thompson water seal on the plywood.

We are beginning to think that the Thompson water seal was the problem. It caused moisture that caused flooring to rot. This is causing thousands of dollars to replace and my husband is trying to do all this by himself. We canโ€™t afford to hire someone so we have no choice.

Jim Walter has since went out of business so we canโ€™t do them anything. We very upset with this out come.

Elizabeth S Ggr

I had a Jim Walter home built in 2000 and paid for them to finish the house inside and furnish appliances. I noticed the flooring was becoming a little spongy in the kitchen in 2017 and had that area repaired and paid $7000 for vinyl plank flooring and carpet in the 4 bedrooms.

Around August of 2019 half of the floor in the house had become spongy. I had a tenant who would not leave so I went through the eviction process. Yesterday I went in the house after having the tenant evicted and noticed that the ENTIRE floor is spongy and one of my friends actually fell through the floor! I do not know what the subflooring is made of, but I will also have to get the entire flooring and subflooring replaced.

This really *** me off because the money I paid for new flooring in 2017 is going in the dumpster with the subflooring!!!

I went with Jim Walter Homes because of no down payment, no closing cost and the attractiveness of the house. Now I'm paying the price of the cheap way in.

Arda we have a Jim Walter home since 1999 and we are having to change the whole bottom floor out. Husband has fell through floor numerous times.

Now I know why they went out of business. They have cost us thousand of dollars.

I feel for you! It's going to cost at least $10,000 to have my floor replaced and that's with my boyfriend doing the work.

The showers, tubs, toilets, vanities, kitchen cabinets all have to be removed. I'm beyond pissed. Jim Walter or Walter Homes had no integrity.

I should have checked the company out throughly before buying. When I get through with this project it will be apprx $45,000 spent on house repairs since 2000.

I'm having same problem. Floors are spongy all through the house.

Jim Walter Homes fled for bankruptcy around 2009.

Please let me know if you get this resolved. Thanks!

Our house was built in 2009. Our floors absolutely fell out..

we could see the ground.

And NO help from anyone from this company. The worst decision we ever made was getting messed up with Jim Walters.
